Question:
How to simply made Resistor Wheels?
I have Atlas Metallic wheels,
but all two wheels are isolated from the axle.
Therefore i must solder 4 points,
(
First two: 1 axle-wheel contact - the short by thinny wire,
Other two: 2 axle-wheel contact - the planar very small 20K resistor.
)
But it's not so convenient to make 4 hot contacts.
I must do it fastly, elsewhere plastic can melt...
Therefore i have Questions:
1) Which commertially awailable wheels axles are more convenient for this modification?
(having one wheel isolated, and one wheel - connected to axle)
2) May be there are already prepared axles with appropriate Resistors?
3) May be, there are conductive glue or epoxy for "cool soldering"?
4) Does its conductivity enough, dependable ?

Hi Vadim,
I use silver based conductive coat for production of resistor axles: I stick the SMD-resistor (1k) to the wheel (one contact near to the axle) and then contact both sides of it with the conductive coat. Such axles I have in service now for 4 years without any problem.
Ready-built resistor axles are available from Luck ( http://www.luck-feinmechanik.de/ ), just contact them by E-Mail (I hope they read/write in English
).

I believe, much less than resistor itself?
(I mean it's a good GLUE )

Resistance about 1K - , as i believe, is too small resistance.
I mean to use 20 K resistor (because resonant detector's sensitivity usually = 40K)
I plan to do it, in aim of current economy.
If i ll have TEN trains, or TEN 4 wheel end cars equipped with 1K resistors - i obtain total resistance R = 1K / 40 = 25 om. This will load 20V DCC Cab up to 0.8 additional Ampers!
I mean also near 1 K ?

Yes, the resistance of the whole axle is determined by the resistance of the resistor used, i.e. in my case it is 1K
I would guess the glue has a resistance of some MegOhms, so it is like an isolator.
As you can see from the PDF linked by Olaf, the axle production consists of two steps:
1) glue the resistor to the axle
2) make electric connection to both wheels with conductive coat (conductive silver)
The conductive silver has a very low resistance (i.e. very high conductivity). Used in the way the pictures from Olaf show, the conductive silver will result in a resistance close to 0 Ohm. Therefore, the SMD resistor determines the resistance of the axle.
To get an English product description of the conductive silver coat, go to www.conrad-uk.com and search for part no. 530042. I don't think Conrad is delivering to Russia, but conductive silver should be available in any electronic shop.

In my opinion this resistant level is to low, because of the power consumption. The most occupation detectors are sensitive enough, to detect current about 1mA. So the resistant up to 20 KOhm is a good value.
