THEMA: decoder on a Mak locomotive
THEMA: decoder on a Mak locomotive
Hi there, sorry if I write in English but my German is really poor. I saw on this website that somebody put a decoder on a minitrix OeBB 2070, which is same chassis also for green Mak I own.
I tried a lenz 0521 (w/ plug) and besides the leght (it doesn't fit it if you close the chassis) the problem was running properly. whenever I supply DCC signal to the programming track, the loco goes to full speed and it's not possible to control it. I double checked the loco wires and it seems to be ok (I bought it in germany in march 2003 and it almost never runned). of course if I put that decoder on another loco, then it works properly.
any idea?
danke!

Hi Denny,
I already changed the Mak's (RAG825 and EH534 from Minitrix) and I had some problems as well to get the decoder inside. I used the cable version, because the plug version is too long, then it was working better.
If you are saying, the locomotive speeds without control, did you try it without housing, so that the decoder has NO contact to anywhere else?
Otherwise I doubt I can help you.
Just as a hint, if you are using the decoder from other manufacturers like Kuehn (http://www.kuehn-digital.de), they are shorter and might fit into it even with plug.
H2H,
Ralli from Hamburg

Thank you for your answer Ralli.
I think I'll give Kuehn decoder a try, but the problem I explained happens also if the loco runs without housing. I'll double check it again.
bye!

Hi Denny,
seems as if the decoder thinks the DCC signal actually were a DC. Notice that all Lenz decoders have the automatic power conversion mode enabled by default.
Could you give some more details about which type and brand of central control box you are using?
In case you have either Intellibox or TwinCenter, I'd suggest you disable the MM and FMZ protocols, respectively, unless you really need those.
You also can easily turn off the analog conversion in CV29 by programming it to a value of 2 (that means DCC only, 28 speed steps).

Hi Peter,
I'm using a simple lokmaus2 system, so no need to disable MM or FMZ.
It's a bit weird that the decoder thinks it's DC because if I put the same decoder on my Taurus, then it works. Also the MaK is not the only digital loco on my layout.
I put plug or wires lenz decoder on other locos and they work properly in DCC (and DC, with automatic conversion). I'll try to disable the DC operation on that decoder and see if it runs.
Thank you for your answer.

@Ralli/Denny - regarding Kuehn:
You cannot install a Kuehn N025P into a Minitrix MAK either, as it won't fit because unfortunately the decoder's layout is upside down (the thickest components are downside).
@Denny - regarding Lenz probs:
This really seems to be a strange effect, I have never seen that with Lenz Compact oder Lokmaus. My own MAK locos (OeBB 2070) operate flawlessly with Tran DCX73. As I've got a LE0521 Version 8, I can probably perform some cross-checking.

Hi Peter, thank you for your advice. I think I try the last chance: a ct-elektronik decoder... let's hope this will solve the problem, since I'd really like that loco to run on my layout :)
bye!
